Tape-in hair extensions are the most popular method for thickening and lengthening hair because they offer an easy application process.
The most significant advantage is that they are lightweight, the least damaging, and suitable for all hair types, from fine to thick.
At Haste, you can find a variety of colors and lengths to customize your color or use as is.
How Do Tape-In Extensions Work?
Tapes are permanent hair extensions formulated of an expansive weft of hair attached at the top with sticky tape adhered to the hair.
The tape adhesive used in the hair add-ons is a mild medical glue similar to plasters. The adhesive part is covered with a paper tab that can be easily peeled away.
You can remove and re-tape the sticky tape for ease of use. We can cut the tape-in hair extensions you find in various colors and lengths into smaller pieces.
We can give you a modest highlight effect with the smaller hair pieces.

Application at Haste Hair
We apply the hair extensions using tape to your hair, sandwiching two wefts between your hair strands. We ensure the slices of your hair are more diminutive in width between the tapes to prevent stray hairs from hanging out.
Furthermore, we ensure that the hair is the same thickness as the tape to hold the weight of your extension. By mimicking the strand’s weight and the weft, it prevents causing damage or hair pulling.
Depending on the look you want, we will place the tapes for a natural finish.
Tape Hair Extension Process
When considering having tape hair extensions applied, your natural hair should be at least four to five inches long.
If your hair is shorter, it becomes more difficult to blend in the extensions. Therefore, the longer your hair, the better the tape-in hair add-on will blend in.
Fitting a hair extension is quite technical, and when fitted poorly, the weaves can start to slip or fail to blend seamlessly with the natural hair, resulting in an uneven appearance.
Once we complete your extensions, you will not be able to feel the tape once they are fitted. Yet, you get used to them after a few days and won’t even notice they’re there.
We provide a perfect application that you will love, look beautiful in, and feel comfortable with.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Tape-In Extensions

As with any hair extension, there are pros and cons to consider. Our table below summarizes them.
Advantages of Tape-In Extensions | Disadvantages of Tape-In Extension |
No hair damage and lightweight | Not suitable if you wear your hair up |
Works on all types of hair | A bit tricky if you want to re-use them |
Applying them is quick and easy | Not ideal for naturally oily hair |
Tape-In Hair Extensions For All Hair Types
The fantastic thing about tape-in hair extensions is that they adapt to most hair types, including fine hair, and are also great for concealing gray hair.
Furthermore, we do not recommend them for naturally oily hair as they will cause the tape to slip. Still, they are suitable for thin hair as they lie flat and give you a natural, seamless look.
When you visit us for a hair extension consultation, we can help you select the one that best suits your needs. Our extension specialist will advise you on the amount of hair required to achieve the best results.
We typically recommend 100 grams of hair for a full head, but the amount needed depends on the thickness of your hair. As with all extensions, the required amount depends on the thickness of your hair and the desired volume you want to add.
For instance, during a consultation, we will determine if you have thick hair, which typically weighs between 250 grams and 300 grams.

5 Tips For Healthier Hair Extensions

1. Sleeping With Hair Extensions
You can easily care for your extension by giving your hair loads of care before bedtime. We recommend loosely braiding the hair, as it can easily become knotted or tangled.
A loose braid prevents the hair strands from rubbing against one another. You should also sleep on a silk pillowcase, which provides a low-friction surface that prevents tugging, breakage, or pulling.
2. Deep Moisture Hair Add-Ons
Refrain from settling for less when washing your hair, even with extensions.
With every wash, restore your tresses’ moisture levels using specially formulated products, such as sulfate— and paraben-free shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask.
The Kerastase brand is an excellent product that gently cleanses the hair and scalp, leaving a non-sticky lather while replenishing your tresses.
Another benefit is that these products do not harm the tape attached to your hair, as they contain no harmful chemicals.
Also, separate any knots you find by using your fingers and checking each tape row to ensure the hair is not caught up with another extension. Brush your hair in the morning and night.
3. Protect Your Extensions From Heat
You can style extensions, but using a heat-protectant product before styling is essential to prevent them from breaking and drying out. Natural hair extensions need loads of moisture.
4. Removing Hair Extensions
When it’s time to remove the tape-in hair extensions, we use a liquid solution with a gentle oil base to loosen the tapes.
We do not recommend strong acetone removers, as they irritate your scalp. An oil-based remover is kinder to your hair and skin.
We will spray the solution on the tab and leave it for a few seconds until it loosens. We will gently remove the tape and use a pintail comb to pry it open if it is too stubborn to remove.
We will repeat the process until all the extensions are removed.
5. Have Regular Root Touch-Ups
If you have colored your hair and extensions, you can still have root touch-ups done, as we do not place the tapes near your hairline, allowing us to touch up the roots.
We also recommend removing the tape every three months and advise applying an all-over color before reapplying it.
Reusing Tape-In Extensions
It is possible to have your hair extensions re-taped, as the old tape on the weft will come off during the removal. However, the old residue must be removed before re-taping.
It is best to use the same oil-based spray on your nails to peel off the remaining adhesive gently. Running it underwater also helps.
Once the tapes are removed, you must wash the hair to rehydrate it. When dry, you can re-tape them using a new pack of sticky tabs.
You will peel off the tab from the plastic sheet and apply it onto the sticky side where you removed the residue. Leave the seal intact until you want to use your tapes again.
The tabs are double-sided, so you must apply them twice, once to the extension and once to the hair.
Misunderstandings About Tape-In Hair Extensions
When it comes to hair extensions, you can find many misunderstandings about using them. Here are some answers to rectify those misunderstandings.
1. Tape–In Hair Extensions Can Ruin Your Hair
Tape-in extensions do not damage your hair when you care for them well and have them professionally fitted and removed. The biggest problem is when you do not take care of them properly.
When you attempt to remove them yourself without using the proper tape remover, the bonds do not break correctly, resulting in problems during removal. Using excessive force also adds stress to the hair, resulting in damage.
2. Extensions Help Hair Grow Faster
Extensions do not help your hair grow faster, but many believe they do. We have a way of measuring how fast your hair grows, but the tape at the roots allows you to see how the hair has grown.
The rate at which your hair grows depends on several factors, including your genes and diet. This will address your question about whether your hair continues to grow with extensions. Your hair continues to grow regularly and will not be affected by it.
3. Hair Extensions Do Not Last Long
Tape-in extensions can last a long time, but they must be removed and reinstalled every six to eight weeks. The length of the extension also depends on hair growth, which causes it to slip down and start to show gaps.
With more room between the root and extension, they start to tangle and can get stuck between the other extensions. For this reason, we recommend that our clients have a maintenance check every four weeks.
Natural hair extensions can last up to 12 weeks or longer when you look after them.
